Fun On Purpose

Building Deeper Collaboration

CoFi 4 brings together attendees from previous CoFi events and welcomes many new participants for a week-long gathering at the Commons Hub in Austria. The event is designed to nurture both intellectual and social connections, with a dynamic schedule that includes structured sessions in the morning, unconference-style discussions in the afternoon, and evenings dedicated to relaxation and community building. Participants can look forward to activities in the surrounding natural area, including hiking and swimming, as well as opportunities to gather around the fire or unwind in the hot tub. This holistic format is intended to foster a balance between deep collaboration and personal rejuvenation.

Expanding on its collaborative ethos, CoFi 4 will delve into the intricacies of alternative financial systems, covering topics like mutual credit, mesh credit, local voucher systems, and multilateral offset clearing. The mornings will feature focused discussions and presentations, while the afternoons will allow for organic exploration through working groups. These sessions aim to create space for participants to address specific challenges, share insights, and advance ongoing projects. The inclusive and open vibe of CoFi ensures a welcoming atmosphere for diverse voices and perspectives, encouraging meaningful exchanges that transcend geographical and cultural boundaries.

Testimonials

background

Both Stephen and Matthew’s management and organisation of the event enabled free flow flowing thoughts, open debate and greater understanding of what CoFi is about and what it could end up becoming.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the best event I've attended. The way you made everyone feel welcome and heard was impressive. I believe there's so much more we can do to grow this movement, and you're truly leading the way. We need to keep building on these connections and push things forward, because you're onto something big.

I was really impressed with how Stephen and Matthew organised the whole retreat. Despite obviously clashing expectations, some people wanting a fully open space, others wanting to talk about setting up some funding structure, others wanting to get their spot in the stage lights, and still others maybe just showing up waiting to be entertained, it was impressive to see you navigate the contradictions and weave a cohesive group and a coherent experience for everybody!

CoFi2: I arrived as an anxious outsider, mingling among veterans, and left feeling energised and inspired. The group dynamic was caring, and I perceived receptiveness in all participants, which was conducive to sharing a real wealth of experience, knowledge and ideas.

I also want to thank you all for the good energy and the passion you have showed to make this world a better place. Great meeting you all.

The Collaborative Finance conference is a refreshing change from both corporate- and blockchain-oriented conferences. It attracts a mix of experienced monetary theorists, academics, and web3+ builders, interested in addressing the real problems in the economy - starting from the ground up.

CoFi presents incredible leverage to small businesses and local trade networks, with the potential to foster economic sustainability at the community level. Don't miss this event if you care about the future of local economies!

Just got home in Stockholm ! I can’t thank you all enough for making this weekend unforgettable, so much inspiration, and I’m happy you got me on here so we can stay in touch.

In the CoFi meetings, you can experience different approaches. In the presentations, the subsequent discussions and above all in the personal encounters, you come away enriched. It's like a group that follows a guiding star and reaches a river to cross. Some go upstream and look for a ford, others want to swim across, others build a boat, and some may even build an airplane. When everyone is over there, they will head in the direction of the leading star together again. In this way, we can live and learn with a diversity of solutions.

The Organizers

background
Commons Hub Austria

Stephen and Matthew are the co-organizers of CoFi 4. Together they organized CoFi 2 and 3, and Matthew organized CoFi 1. They have been in the community currency space a very long time, and have organized many other fun and productive gatherings over the years and decades.

We're doing this to bring people from the community currency movement together with people in the blockchain/web3 movement to cross-pollinate our ideas, values and desired outcomes.
