21-28 June, 2026 • Commons Hub Austria
Join us for a week of deep connection, innovative financial exploration, and natural rejuvenation in the heart of the Austrian Alps.

CoFi Gatherings bring together a vibrant mix of veterans and new voices in alternative economics for a week-long intensive at the Commons Hub in the Austrian alps.
We believe deeper collaboration results when people have the chance to engage intellectually as well as unwind and spend down time together—whether by hiking the Rax, soaking in the "liquidity pool" hot tub, or sharing ideas by the fire.
This year, we will dive deeper into alternative financial systems and create space for participants to design for real-world challenges and advance ongoing projects along 5 daily themes:
Whether you're a solo builder, an established team, or a curious learner,
there's a place for you in CoFi.
Working on your own? Bring your project or find your team. You won't be alone here.
Share your work and deepen connections with fellow participants.
Gain inspiration from your fellow attendees, experts and pioneers in the space.

Once a historic countryside inn for hikers and artists nestled in the Austrian Alps, now a center for the Commons Economy.
The Hirschwangerhof, nestled at the foot of the Rax mountains, serves as an open community space and experimentation playground. It bridges the gap between the progressive Web3 ecosystem and the broader Commons movement.
Accommodating 30 overnight guests in comfortable dormitory-style accommodation and hosting up to 100 event participants in 2 halls, the Commons Hub offers an extraordinary blend of high-tech maker space with 3D Printers & CNC Cutters and large indoor and outdoor meeting spaces surrounded by natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Visit WebsiteOur next 30 guests will stay in shared apartments next door at the Herrnhof mansion.
We have arranged a very special price for our attendees who wish to stay as a couple, have their own room, or sleep in a quieter place. Herrnhof has a lovely riverside sauna, and walking paths through the forest.
Book your stay at Herrnhof through us, not through their website.

Located at the foot of the Rax mountains, this picturesque village offers breathtaking scenery and traditional Austrian hospitality. It’s a haven for hikers and nature lovers.
Plan for the hourly trains from Vienna (10:53 - 14:53) to catch the bus to Hirschwang. Outside these times, a taxi is required from Payerbach.
Cost per person for the 7-day gathering.*

"Both Stephen and Matthew’s management and organisation of the event enabled free flow flowing thoughts, open debate and greater understanding of what CoFi is about and what it could end up becoming.
I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the best event I've attended. The way you made everyone feel welcome and heard was impressive. We need to keep building on theses connections and push things forward because you're on to something big!"
"I can’t thank you all enough for making this weekend unforgettable, so much inspiration, and I’m happy you got me on here so we can stay in touch."
" I also want to thank you all for the good energy and the passion you have showed to make this world a better place. Great meeting you all."
"This is the best conference event I have ever attended. Loved the intergenerational exchange, the web2-web3 combination, the structure of days (combining featured sessions and open sessions), the hub and the nature around it! I’ve learnt so much and had equal amounts of fun! :) "
"CoFi 3 was my first CoFi event I attended. When I arrived I had no idea what to expect except that there would be people who know that money is not neutral and that its design matters. What I got blew my mind! It is increasingly rare to be with a group that holds so much knowledge, skill and wisdom combined with an open mind, a listening ear and a lack of ego. This was such a group and it was a joy to be part of it. The open space format strongly contributed to the relevance of the content offered because ideas could emerge on the spot and be built upon. I am really happy to have spent my time there and am grateful to have met a whole bunch of new interesting, open and warm people. Thank you all. "
"The Collaborative Finance conference is a refreshing change from both corporate- and blockchain-oriented conferences. It attracts a mix of experienced monetary theorists, academics, and web3+ builders interested in addressing the real problems in the economy - starting from the ground up.
Don't miss this event if you care about the future of local economies!"
"I arrived as an anxious outsider, mingling among veterans, and left feeling energised and inspired. The group dynamic was caring, and I perceived receptiveness in all participants, which was conducive to sharing a real wealth of experience, knowledge and ideas."
"One colleague said the second day that it felt like 2 weeks in the good sense and I can't agree more. The organization allows for a lot of very deep and interesting conversations. I was amazed by how people are willing to share their ideas but also to learn from others, in a very diverse but always warm and safe environment. And the venue make me feel like in home. This year I only could go to one conference and I choose CoFi."
"Attending CoFi 3 left me greatly impressed and enriched. The diversity of participants, quality of projects and presentations, depth of discussions, thoughtful organisation, and friendly atmosphere all contributed. I'll definitely be back for CoFi 4. "
"What I loved about the CoFi gathering was how it brought together brilliant, grounded people who are actually doing the work, taking the abstract world of crypto and turning it into real tools for communities. Unlike Bitcoin and other crypto, which burns energy with little social benefit, CoFi is building distributed monetary systems rooted in reality. It’s the beginning of a new kind of money, one that reflects real value in society. If you care about systems change, this is where it’s happening. Come be part of it."
"I was really impressed with how Stephen and Matthew organised the whole retreat. Despite obviously clashing expectations, some people wanting a fully open space, others wanting to talk about setting up some funding structure, others wanting to get their spot in the stage lights, and still others maybe just showing up waiting to be entertained, it was impressive to see you navigate the contradictions and weave a cohesive group and a coherent experience for everybody!"
"I arrived at CoFi 3 without knowing what I was to expect, apart that there would be people who understand how money works and know we can organise money in a different way. What I walked away with blew my mind! It was so much more than just talk about money systems. The whole of society with all of its complex dynamics was looked at. I don't think I have ever seen such a high presence of intellect, wisdom and knowledge combined with such a lack of ego. Every single gathering of leaders could learn from this. It creates a space where ideas meet and strengthen each other. A space where there is room for constructive criticism without it being taken personally. A space where everyone contributes through what they are good at and where they are supported in those areas where they need help. For me, this is the way forward."
"This was my first time at a CoFi conference, and the reception couldn't have been warmer. It was an incredibly inspiring gathering, bringing together so many lovely, clever and creative people from all over the world in this fantastic venue. Working together on new systems that can side-step what isn't working, joining forces in beautiful collaborations."
"CoFi 3 was every bit as fun and generative as the previous Collaborative Finance conferences. A true hackademic event, if I've ever seen one. If you are interested in the theory and practice of alternative economies, this is where the signal gathers without the noise!"
Matthew, Stephen and Scott are veterans of the community currency, commons economy and blockchain/web3 space. They are dedicated to bridging the community currency movement with the blockchain/web3 world by facilitating the cross-pollination of ideas, values, and desired outcomes for a more collaborative future.
In addition to CoFi 4, there are two other interesting and important events
for you to consider attending.
